Tree services in Toorak

This inner city suburb is known for its leafy green streets and even has a tree named after it — The Evergreen Alder or Toorak 'Gum Tree' Alnus — which is commonly found lining the suburb's nature strips and in front gardens. These trees need proper shaping and pruning to ensure they don't grow out of control.

Whether you are the proud owner of an Evergreen Alder or have a wide variety of trees on your site, we can help you care, maintain and remove your trees in line with the City of Stonnington's council guidelines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have a tree removed on my property?

The City of Stonnington advises that if you are planning to prune or remove a tree on your property you may need to get a permit first. The General Local Law outlines that to prune or remove significant trees, you must obtain a Tree Works Permit.

If your tree is not considered a significant tree, it may still be controlled by an overlay in Yarra (Birrarung) River Corridor Environs, and Hedgeley Dene Precinct. If you live in one of these areas you must obtain planning approval before pruning or removing any tree.

Get in touch so we can help you determine whether you need a tree permit on your site.

What is a significant tree?

A Significant Tree is a tree or palm:

  • with a trunk circumference of 140 cm or greater measured at 1.4 m above its base
  • with a total circumference of all its trunks of 140 cm or greater measured at 1.4 m above its base
  • with a trunk circumference of 180 cm or greater measured at its base
  • with a total circumference of all its trunks of 180 cm or greater measured at its base.

I want to plant more trees. How do I know if they are suitable for my site?

The City of Stonnington encourages residents to plant trees to support biodiversity but it's important to ensure that the trees being planted are suitable. We can help develop planting requirements for any new trees you'd like to add to your site.
